Assessing Attrition Bias – Addendum

چکیده
A. INTRODUCTION This document serves as an addendum to the existing attrition white paper (“Assessing Attrition Bias” version 2.1) previously used for the WWC Procedures and Standards Handbook, version 2.1. This document does not recommend any substantive changes to the version 2.1 attrition bounds. Instead, this addendum presents additional empirical information and sensitivity analyses to support the existing attrition bounds.

Assessing the Ability of Matching to Address Attrition Bias in a Randomized Experiment using Data from the Rand Health Insurance Experiment
It is well known that non-random attrition can lead to bias in estimating treatment effects from a social experiment that is based on random assignment. If the randomized intervention suffers from non-random attrition, the intent to treat (ITT) estimator is biased and the IV estimator of the treatment effect is also inconsistent (Frangakis and Rubin 1999). DiNardo, McCrary and Sanbonmatsu (2006...
متن کاملAssessing the effects of cooperation bias and attrition in behavioral genetic research using data-weighting.
Because twins and adoptees are a rare resource, they are often studied repeatedly over a period of many years. Differential attrition, and in some studies initial cooperation bias, have the potential to lead to serious biases to estimates of genetic and environmental parameters. Since non-response is often influenced by multiple binary or categorical sociodemographic variables, maximum-likeliho...
متن کاملThe Raine study had no evidence of significant perinatal selection bias after two decades of follow up: a longitudinal pregnancy cohort study
BACKGROUND Cohort studies may increase or decrease their selection bias as they progress through time. The Western Australian Pregnancy Cohort (Raine) Study has followed 2868 children for over two decades; from fetal into adult life. This paper analyses the cohort over time, assessing potential bias that may come and go with recruitment, retention and loss of participants. METHODS Linked data...
متن کاملInterpreting trial results following use of different intention-to-treat approaches for preventing attrition bias: a meta-epidemiological study protocol
INTRODUCTION When participants drop out of randomised clinical trials, as frequently happens, the intention-to-treat (ITT) principle does not apply, potentially leading to attrition bias. Data lost from patient dropout/lack of follow-up are statistically addressed by imputing, a procedure prone to bias. Deviations from the original definition of ITT are referred to as modified intention-to-trea...
متن کاملConstructive Proposals for Dealing with Attrition: An Empirical Example∗
Survey nonresponse and attrition undermine the validity of many and possibly most econometric estimates. In this paper, we discuss simple methods for assessing the nature of the damage caused by such problems. A fundamental component of the methods we discuss is partial randomization of non–response. We evaluate the performance of simple grouped data estimators for sample selection (a là Gronau...
